2022 Distracted Driving for Consumers

By Travelers
1 minute

Distracted driving is deadly. Despite the data from Transport Canada showing that more than one in five fatal collisions in Canada are caused by distracted driving*, the problem persists. Part of the problem may lie in the statistics that show Canadians believe they are safe on the roads, although they admit to certain distracted driving behaviours.

The 2022 Travelers Canada Distracted Risk Survey reveals that 77 per cent of Canadians believe that distracted driving is very risky and they take every step possible to avoid being distracted. However, half of respondents admit to talking or using a phone while driving. Notably, one in six drivers admit they have had a crash, collision or near miss because they were distracted.

The 2022 Travelers Canada Distracted Driving Risk Survey indicates that more needs to be done to reduce distracted driving and stay focused while driving. We can all do our part by speaking up when we’re in the car with a distracted driver, by putting away our phones while driving and by staying focused behind the wheel.
